Have any of you bought 1 lately? I moved some bee hives that are on pallets today. 80° here today. I found a rattlesnake under one pallet. It is now illegal to kill them in Iowa. I gotta talk to the DNR guys and find out if they are in your front yard, can you shoot them? Mills Fleet Farm has some 6 shot Heritage Rough Riders supposed to be on sale for $119.95. We don't have a gun shop here anymore to find a used one. Will these requiring 22LR shells fire bird shot. My left arm is pretty much useless anymore. I can't hold a rifle up anymore. Thanks guys.

just my personal opinion, I wouldn't talk to DNR, I would just take care of business! I know of a fellow who died from a rattlesnake bite few years back.

I've got a Rough Rider. Bought it 3 or 4 years ago for $79. It shoots pretty good. No real complaints. And yes it will shoot ratshot.

I agree with Lou,,, bout calling DNR!! The only'ist good snake is one buried bout 3 feet deep. I don't remember WHEN the feds were going to start requiring the CC companies to record all gun and ammo sales charged to CC ,,,,but remember to use cash or personal checks when paying,,,,,

Nothing wrong with a rough rider. I’ve had one for over 20 years. It’s never give a minutes trouble. I use mine for target shooting since we don’t have snakes in Arkansas.

Bought a Ruger Mark II decades ago, kept it clean and all is great, BIL has one let get too dirty in chambering region and misfires, handle birdshot really well magazine fed.
Nephew has a Ruger Single 6, shoots well easy to load and clean, old style Cowboy Colt type.

Back in my younger days I carried a 22 revolver while bank line fishing but a water moccasin was about the only snake we were liable to see. As for rattlers, I'd spend a little more, and get a Kel Tec P17 automatic, Academy Sports has them for $220 and more in line with my philosophy on shooting snakes, (holds 17 rnds), then Shoot, Shovel, and Shhhh. Several years ago, Kentucky Dept. of Conservation decided to import timber rattlers and re-intoroduce them to the state because they claimed they were native there before being wiped out. funny thing is, they never released any in or around the Department of Conservation building. Once again proving that some people are educated well beyond their intelligence.

I have a pistol, but do most target shooting with a 22 rifle.. Really surpises me how many possums jump out in front of that target.... 1-2 per week!!

I've got a little.410 called the snake charmer, it's a very effective snake gun. Those little revolvers are a little bit easier to carry around but like Dave says it's imperative that they are kept clean, the upside to them is if they get dropped in the pond your not out a whole lot of money.

I've got a snake charmer also. Not good for a whole lot but snakes that are close by it's great for

Thanks guys, my feelings exactly about snakes. The darn things come up and down Rocky Creek, which runs along my property. Ya we are in the middle of one of the largest limestone formations in the midwest. Darn snakes are all over here.

Seen that F F add and the price , then look it up in another add - Listed for $179 - so the F F price is good if you want a single action 22 . Thing is you need to get a dang pistol permit from local police , then the Fed background check to buy . Unless you know someone who would GIFT it to you . (NO STRAW PURCHASE THOUGH) Local F F is now in trouble as they sold some pistols to someone who had the permits , passed the background checks - but the guns were found on someone else who did a crime - So the MN Att General says F F - did something wrong in selling guns and is going after them - not the criminal or the guy who bought them but the store for selling them legally .

Ran over a 6' rat snake last week. We've seen him several times. Didn't see him that day. Harrow discs cut him up, front half crawled another foot or so . Normally they get out of the way.

New law in Iowa July 2021...
Iowans are no longer required to get a permit to purchase or carry a handgun after https://www.iowapublicradio.org/state-government-news/2021-04-02/iowa-governor-signs-law-ending-handgun-permit-requirements" rel="nofollow - changes to the state's gun laws took effect Thursday. Those who want to purchase a handgun from a federally licensed gun seller without a permit will still have to get a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Iowans no longer need a permit or a background check to buy a handgun in a private sale. Sellers can be charged with a felony if they give a gun to someone they “know or reasonably should know” is prohibited from having a gun.

No one going to prohibit me from shooting a rattler. When I was in high school, I was walking a draw grouse hunting, when all of a sudden one big assed rattler let me know that I was about to step on him. 12 guage pretty well took care of him. He had 12 buttons on him. Friend that was with me cut the buttons off, because in his words, I was shaking too bad to do it. Rest of that hunt, a grouse could have landed on my shoulder and I wouldn't have seen it, I was watching the ground! Darrel

Funny how that works after you darn near step on one of the dang old snakes. The deer season is mid Aug to mid Sept here so prime snake time too.
