I'm removing the steering clutches on my 6G. Have a few questions. First, what holds the pin in the lever/band. Is it press fit, spring fit, or what? How much force should I expect to use to extract this pin, once I have something screwed into it? Manual shows very little. The machine is otherwise running nicely and proving to be a pretty solid runner.

Remove the pipe plugs from side of housing - incert a threaded long bolt into hole in pin, screw into pin and use a slide hammer or pry to pull pin out . The pin has a turned down area in center which one end of brake band fits into and this is what holds pin in place . Notice the brake band has a loop on each end 2 on one end 1 on the other end . Once band is loose it can be used to lift the clutch drum from machine , Be sure to back off the bolt in bottom of case to allow the band to be loose , bolt is accessed under machine in rear casting

I believe it is 5/16" all thread, and I found the bolt underneath Coks mentions, if not run out some, the pins do not always line up with the access holes

Thanks, all.....I did notice have to depress brake pedal a little to line up pin with access hole. Brake bands have very thick lining in great condition. A shame this clutch was left to rust up so bad. I have a feeling this tractor was in great mechanical condition before it was 'put up', prolly when the main clutch burned out. Undercarriage turns well under engine power but still too tight to turn by hand. I'll use the power down on the boom to roll the tracks enough to access all the bolts on the hub. Hopefully, the clutch will lift out when I get it all unattached. I've heard that some have to cut their drum in half to extract it. Ouch!

Once I got the pins lined up with the holes, ran a tap into the pin threads, used a 5" 5/16 carriage bolt and two nuts and washers, and they came out easily. Glad I've been spraying all of this with Freeoff for weeks. I now see what others mean when they state they had to cut the drum to remove it. With the stuck clutch, the pressure plate and pack can't retract into the drum far enough to extract the clutch assy. So, I'm reinserting all the bolts, drilled 3 small holes in perimeter of drum, and filling the clutch with penetrating oil. I'll use the brake and tractor power to loosen this clutch. I had it turning once before when tracks were really stuck. I wanted to do this right, and pull it out and clean/replace parts, but I don't want to destroy this 300$ drum unless there is no other alternative. There are aftermarket available, but I've had mixed results with aftermarket parts. The right-hand clutch is free as a bird. Mice had filled the S clutch left compartment and allowed water to accumulate because the drain hole was nearly plugged with debris.

If you havethe fiber clutch plates might look for HD11 ceramic - then I have a stack of the old style after I changed my machine over . Less chance or rusting together . you can try using a porta-power to move unit also to get clearance - or remove timken bearing retainers to get more clearance of the flanger by allowing them to move
