Hello all,

While troubleshooting a fuel delivery issue on my 180, when I pulled the plug from the bottom of the carb, not the drain, the treads decided to come out with it . Anyone drilled the bowl out for a larger plug? Otherwise anyone have a zenith 13416 bowl for sale? Don’t really want to buy a whole new carb but I may be interested in parts or junk carb.

Where are you located in Iowa? I don't have parts but would be willing to help with the bigger plug. Have every size of pipe taps and reamers for same.

I am south of Cedar Falls.  Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it sometime.  My neighbor has a mini-machine shop in his garage but Im fearful where this plug is, there is a port to one of the jets, a bigger plug may impact that.  It also appears to not be pipe thread as it has a flat fiber washer, see arrow below.  I may actually try to helicoil it, I know they dont seal very well but if I have to use a fiber washer on the plug to seal to the bowl, that should not matter then.

That's why I hate those alunerman carbs !! My One-Seventy's adjustable main jet (same location) is now minus the fiber washer and used Loctite to carefully reassemble it. I know if I ever take it apart again it will be toast, but for now I'm good.

I missed the 'not the drain' part. That does look like a bit of a sticky wicket!

Unfortunately that problem isn't uncommon. If you do some searching on the Yesterday's Tractors forum you'll find a few people with that issue on Zenith carbs.

I had the same thing happen on an old Farmall. I doubt it's the same carb, but probably pretty similar. The threads of mine were either 5/16-24 or 3/8-24 - can't remember for sure, but it was a standard UNF size, so I was able to put a helicoil in. There was just barely enough meat to do it, and if I remember right I had to (carefully) cut down a standard length helicoil to be short enough.

If you don't do a lot of helicoils yourself, this might not be the best thing to learn on as you have to freehand the pilot drill angle to match the existing angle. Any competent machine shop should only take a couple of minutes to bang one in.
