My old portercable died. I tried to fix it but no such luck. It needs several parts and a couple are obsolete.
Been looking at the Bauer at HF.
This isn’t a tool that will ride in my work truck or I’d buy a new Milwaukee.
This is just for my projects in the shop.
Anybody tried one? The reviews aren’t bad.

Have seen several relatively new not make it through a job and thrown out. Most are either trigger, or brush/commutator related problems. Too cheap to put any time into for repair so replaced.

I dont have one, but your right, the reviews are 98% positive... I would think for normal , around the house it should work out.... A lot of power tool life depends on how hard the tool is PUSHED.. Dont drag it down and pull the full 10 amps and i would think the life would be good.

Like Codger said, switchs seem to be a big problem, with ALL tools.. I have replaced several over the last 40 years.. They get cheaper and cheaper ( construction) as most are made in CHINA.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I've got two Milwaukee portable band saws. Worst thing I've ever used. They are more like portable scroll saws. I could never get a straight cut

re: I could never get a straight cut.
Could be crummy blade and not setup right.

I bought one of China's finest '4by6' bandsaws 30 years ago.Put an 'economy' blade in,BAD mistake, back to 'bimetal blades, since then, every cut  dead true. I bought a spare machine for $100 at yardsale, just in case.

Never had a need for a handheld unit, curious, what does someone use it for ?

Thad, I bought one for a very specific job a couple years ago.  It worked fine, but, literally have a bout an hour on the tool, so I'm not much help I guess.  The job I had pinched and sprung the blade more than once, and I've never gotten around to replacing the blade, so there it sits.

I have the HF saw and it works fine.  I built a stand for it and use it a lot.
