I had recently purchased a set of manifold gaskets for my WD. Upon opening the package and spreading out all the pieces, there are two gaskets each for the exhaust and intake ports along with the thin metal retainer. In as much that these gaskets are thin, and the last set didn't last very long, what are people doing relative to installing two gaskets at each port or simply installing one gasket. Wish I could get a set of the old OEM gaskets that probably had thicker asbestos type of material. So one gasket or two per port? One other question would be, once installed do you ever retighten after a couple hours of running the engine?
Thanks

If you don't re-tighten the nuts when the engine is COLD everyday for several days (this assumes you use it everyday) you will have early failure of gaskets. If your manifold isn't flat, that is bad. As far as the quality of your gaskets, I can't tell by looking.

There are 2 type due to being 2 types of manifold out there. You will not find asbestos in gasket anymore due to it being a cancer causing agent. Use a fiber and steel set that matches your manifold and put RED Hi Temp RTV on all sides of the gaskets and it will still be holding when your grandkids take over ownership.

I've never doubled things up. It's harder to crush two gaskets tight that it is one.

I would agree, just thought it was strange that there were 2 gaskets per port, or the folks sell these know that they don't last long. I will follow the advice of the tightening after some running of the engine. Always curious as to what others have done with these gasket sets.

RE-tighten when COLD after running it at operating temps.

As a business that sells both those aftermarket gaskets and the OEM ones, I believe they recently started including 2 gaskets for each port to match the thickness of the OEM ones when all assembled. If we use those in the service dept, we use both gaskets in each retainer. Also do like Paul says and put hi temp silicone between each layer like a sandwich!

better take a straight edge to the manifold it has to be flat and a little meat around the ports it can not be eroaded to a point around the exhaust ports
