Nice to see there’s someone else out there still using them. Dads got a gas 12, factory diesel 12 and I’m currently overhauling a 14 with a 262 gas.

Could you explain how the 12 diesel is setup compared to a gas?  At 1 time we had a 262 laying around but I cant see how it would fit in there so i went with the 4b.?  I havnt ever found any diesel pictures online either.

The frame is actually longer, same concept as a D-17 gas vs diesel. I want to say it’s 4”. The rear frame uprights that the cylinders pin to is longer as well.

Interesting.  i was able to find a series of photos and a video of a 12 diesel.  somewhere overseas.  the video is useless as its shot from the front.  but the photos were slightly better,  but comments not in english.   it looked to me like the motor protrudes much farther into the rear structure that the cylinders are pinned to.  and the radiator had to be set back a ways for it to work.  it could be the perspective as without the longer frame there is no way for the 262 oil pan to clear the axle pivot assembly.

here is the forum link to the posts.  if you can read scandanavian let me know.

Dad said it has a special oil pan to clear differential as well. He bought it with a rod knock and put a 262 Combine motor in it (was easy at the time). The original diesel that’s in the TL-12 was a Buda 273. I’m thinking it was during the merger when Allis bought Buda. Either way the 273 is the predecessor to the 262 and has the 230 crank with a bigger bore and cast in cylinders (no liners to drop). I want to rebuild and turbo the 273 to swap into our factory gas D19. I think it would eliminate the issues they had with those tractors.
