I went to check out a WD-45 that supposedly needed a hand clutch collar that had broken. It started right up and sounded good. Then there were a D-19 and a Super M sitting next to it which turned out to also be for sale. I ended up making a deal on the three and now have more stuff sitting in my yard.

The seller included a usable hand clutch collar so I'll put that in and see what other problems I find. He also included a drawbar and hanger that appear to have been torched out from a WD (pin hitch). The serial number is 213132.



The D-19 is serial number 1427 and has the G262 and needs a rebuild or a replacement motor. The loader is kind of a hack job. Anybody know the manufacturer of it? I haven't been able to ID it yet. Someone welded the frame to the tractor frame rails so I have a lot of welds to cut in my future. This one will be on the back burner for a while. I'll keep an eye out for an engine for it. It needs at least one rear tire, too. It has a belt pulley shaft/casting which I thought was interesting for this size of tractor in the '60s.









I've always wanted an M... At least until I learned how bad the hydraulic systems suck (better than a WC, to be fair?). This Super M has live hydraulics. It cranks over but doesn't have spark, and apparently barely moved (likely the M & W hand clutch). I need to get the ignition system addressed and then figure out if I can get the parts I need for the M & W clutch, or if I'm better off swapping it back to the original factory disc brake parts and losing the hand clutch. Maybe it just needs that wood cover replaced with an original if I'm really lucky.

I want to take some measurements and see if I can put the loader from the D-19 onto this tractor. Guess I may have to join a red forum if I have questions on this one, ha.

I'd also be curious to know what you guys would do with the D-19. Try to rebuild the existing engine, or find a used running one?

When IHC went to the Super series the also went to Disc Breaks which are not very good.

Don't lose that front hand crank cover. They cost a mint to replace!

The loader I'd remove and sell separate.

...kinda bugs me seeing a loader on tractors that are trying to do other tasks than loading and digging.

John, as to the Super M, come on over to Red Power! Great bunch of guys, all the help you could ever need. My knowledge of letter series is pretty limited, just know they are tough!

Congrats on a great purchase! Me, I might have left the 19. They are kind of cool but can you say money pit?

I rode the tractor down a slight grade and was able to stop it okay, but that's not much of a test. I'm going to have a lot to learn on a new brand. Thankfully I don't have any seriously steep hills where I would be driving this.

Ha, noted. I'm planning on keeping the loader for now. I just measured the Super M and it should be a better fit than the D-19, if I decide to move it over. It has to come off of the D-19 regardless. Unfortunately I don't have anything besides a trip bucket loader on a WD so this would be a huge step up if I can get it working.

Thanks Mike! That seemed to be the main forum that popped up in my searches, so I'll have to join and make a thread over there about the Super M. It's so much bigger than a WD-45.

Yeah, I know, the D-19 would be quite the project. I mostly wanted the other two tractors, but I went ahead and made him an offer on all 3 that I figured I wouldn't be burned too badly on, and he accepted... So here I am, in trouble. The Super M is probably about as big of a tillage tractor as I'd ever need, but the D-19 would be cool.

D19’s are cool tractors and easy to get parts for. By no means are they anymore of a money pit than any other neglected tractor.

Seems like the main things are engine internals like pistons and bearings. On the flip side, I can get some front end and transmission parts that you can't get for WDs/WD-45s, so that's good.

I finally figured out what the loader is - an International 2000. Could be much worse. I can still get some parts for it at least. They actually made mounts to fit the Super M, so that probably wouldn't be too bad of a job to make it fit on that tractor. However the low hydraulic pressure and no power steering on the Super M are big cons vs. the D-19.

I have plenty of time to think about this... But the Super M is more likely to be usable in the near future than the D-19.

Chris, I'm out of space in the shop! Need to get the '51 WD wrapped up. I might be able to wiggle this WD-45 in temporarily... I am going to have to split it slightly in order to replace the worn out throw out piece on the hand clutch, that the bronze collar rides on plus the collar itself. I need to do that at some point and I'm not sure I want to wait on the WD engine assembly.

Tom it sure is. I found an IH part number on the control valve and that led me to figuring out that it was an IH loader, and then was able to ID it was a 2000 and not a 2001, 2250, 3000, etc. Seems like most folks think they're decent loaders for the era.
