Talked to my grandson last night. Sorta proud of him. He's in the Army learning how to be an engineer, no not running trains. He told me they marched down to a river and drilled holes for soil samples. They were using a mathematical formula figuring out what they needed to do so they could put a bridge there. He was telling me about the math formula. Heck I couldn't spell it, nor could I pronounce it. Sure wish him luck. When he gets out of this training the army is supposed to send him to Iowa State so he can finish his Engineering degree. Heck when i was in service, I got to recondition big stuff, with tires and tracks on it, guard prisoners, and haul them to court, along with drinking gallons of great German Beer. Liked the beer. And the German holiday "Fashing". That ain't spelled right. Its a holiday in the fall where everyone sorta takes October off and drinks beer. Not really, they still go to work but after work its lookout were headed for the beer joint.

Sounds like he’s off to a good start.
Hopefully he can avoid learning about Molotov cocktails and shots of Russian

Tom, some of the best training a young man or lady can get is in the military. Sounds like the Army is finally trying to catch up with the Air Force and Navy with their training. There are some drawbacks though, like multi-year commitment and being deployed to a combat zone. Thank him for his service.

Thanks guys, I will see him in July, next time he is home. I will tell him. His dad was in Afganstan 3 times while he and his older brother were in High school. It was interesting, I was working at a car dealership at the time and got to buy both of them their first cars, along with showing them firearms training, and have been encouraging both to be financially independent, (IE get off your butt and find a good job). Oldest one is working as a welder making good money. Youngest one is a freshman, involved in every sport he can, hoping to be a state finalist in several sports. He is either studying or running, or lifting weights with his dad. I'm just too darn lazy to lift weights.
