My Son's 2002 Hundai Elantra needs to get fuel pump replaced after my gauge set tells me it only putting up 11# fuel pressure. I had him remove the pump as it is Conviently located under the rear seat,,,(what a novel idea,)  and why don't American engineers do the same thing where it don't take an act of Congress to remove the frigging gas tank that is mostly 3/4 tank FULL,,when fuel pump goes out,???
Anyway, he removed the fuel pump and he went and ordered one. New pump came in today and when I went to install it,, the pump plastic body looked like it was about 3/4" TOO LONG,,,?? The pump body was setting in the bottom of tank and top of fuel pump body was 3/4" above the rim of the fuel tank. I could depress the pump body (several springs inside pump body) enough ( 3/4") to install the metal ring that bolts the pump body to tank,,,,,
I checked out several UTube videos but none of them say anything bout having to depress the pump to make it bolt up.
 Anyone done this before???

Joe I have replaced several fuel pump assemblies and that is normal. You have to press them down they have springs that keeps them to the bottom.

The one in my bride's 2012 Escape is accessible by removing the driver's seat.

This for the group,,,should someone come up on this and will save you some gruntin and groaning,,,  The pump is intentially made bout 1/2" longer than the tank is "deep". This to keep the pump suction close to the btm of tank and a Hyundai Tecknition told me also to stop the assembly from any movement,,,,Who Knew,,??
Anyway,,go buy 6 bolts (metric)bout 1" longer than them little bitty short bolts and install in every/other hole to pull the pump assembly down into the tank,,,then,,one by one,, exchange the long bolts with the factory short bolts to finish the bolt down. (Hint,,the tank threaded bolt holes DO NOT go all the way thru to prevent any fuel odors inside car.) This way you don't need 3 hands to push assembly down while trying to install them short bolts.
 Hope this helps others,,,,,Clap
