Subject: Which seals should I replace

I have my 190 split for intermediate gear work. While split I have pulled the power director, replaced the three sealing rings and the hub because of groves wore in hub. Should I replace seals on lower pto shaft while split? I have had no indication of oil leaking or being transferred from torque housing into trans. Any opinions are appreciated, John

Yes, I would replace the PTO seals while it is split.                  MACK

Thanks, guess I better order a couple more seals. Looks like that will make them all done and better off safe than sorry. Doesn't look to be to hard company to the rest of the work I've done on it. Thanks again, John

Pack those PTO seals in grease so the spring cannot fall out of place when you drive them in their bore.

look at it this way...
..whichever seal you do NOT replace WILL be the one that'll leaks a couple dayze from when it's 'up and running'.....Cry

Also, be sure the upper seal on the transmission input shaft is only pressed in FLUSH with the O.D.   If you press it clear into the bottom of the bore, it will block off the drain hole on the bottom and you will be splitting the tractor again for oil transfer problems.

Will do, I'll pack them with grease. I was real careful with the top seal and made sure to not block that lower oil passage like you said on one of your other posts. That hub had grooves wore in it so I replaced it and the steel rings in power director while I was in there. Thanks, John

I have a driver I made that keeps springs from jumping out . If you don't do something, they will jump out.                       MACK

Replace every seal in that general area.  Murphy's law that one you didn't replace will start leaking 6 months later.  Definitely do the PTO lever shaft O ring!

John while you have the PTO shaft out the rear of housing I'd suggest you replace PTO output seal and sealing Oring. You're already there and it's another $15.

I have ordered all seals and o-ring so they will all be new. I definitely don't feel like splitting this again for a couple dollars worth of parts. As DrAllis told me before I started this it's a pretty big job. But, I'm enjoying it. John
