| What a day! Set grain head on carrier but forgot to unhook reel lift hose. Wasn't using it to cut beans, just put on 25 feet of new cycle sections and hooked up hose to lift reel out of the way. $107.00. Got to shelling corn and my son informs me the voltage light is on in the 8070 which we are using on the grain cart. The alternator is about ten days old. We keep going. Now wife is catching corn with cart. Dad and son are hauling to bin. Wife just put in 8 hrs. teaching second graders. We're cooking now! Combine seems to be jumping around in the back. Flat rear tire in black soft loose soil. Big boards, big jacks. Now wheel is off, combine in field, lets take cart home. Try folding auger and all I see is a big plume of hydralic oil coming out of cart. Another broken hose. Finally get it home and see big oil leak coming out of front axel where drive shaft connects . Probally a seal. Watching news, feild fires everywhere. Tomorrows another day. Good luck to all. |

| I had that day Monday and Tuesday. the rest of the week went better,getting ready to start drilling wheat. Some days make you wish you could get it out of your blood. |

I would trade any job for farming, especially the one I've got. Got to drive 1hr 1 way everyday to the big city just so I can get my daily a** chewing, put up with their and everyone elses crap and then at the end of the day hope I get to do it all over again just so I can get the almighty check at the end of the week. I know faming is hard work for a couple weeks out of the year (talking grain farmer) but that is a small trade off for not having a boss. Unfortunately the only way to get into farming these days is to be born into it. You can be anything you want if you have the drive to do it except farming. That you have to be born into. At least in these here parts. |
