I really prefer old-fashioned ways, you know, handwritten checks (if known to be good) CASH, and good ole CREDIT cards, but,I may hafta move into the present time, seems a lot are using things like Venmo and cash App. seems like a lot of places and people are using one of these which one ya'll use and what do you like/dislike? what do they have for recourse/safety? If I do get one of these, I'm thinkin of tying it to it's own separate account with only a minimum amount of money in the account, to save from hackers...I do have a couple Debit cards, their limit is set at $500.00, because I had one of these hacked few years ago. it won't take many bad reviews for me to stick with the good ole reliable...AMERICAN GREENBACKS....

Canada government thinks they can spy on anyone they feel like now... and freeze or seize any account at will... so nothing is really safe anymore. Don't seem to matter what type of values they are.

And we Americans were so worried about Cuba for over half a century! Little did we suspect that Canada would be taken over by Communists. Just watched the Canadian Finance Minister threaten to freeze the bank accounts of Americans who sympathize with the truckers & farmers who are protesting.

I use bank wire transfers for machinery purchases out of state. We use the Square credit card reader for sales at the Farmers Market, I prefer cash or Market Bucks but don't want to miss out on a sale. Some farmers are taking Venmo, don't really know how it works, need to talk to a younger person who deals with it.

"e-transfer" is common in Canada.
You need a phone or computer to email the money. It comes out of whatever account you want.

Hey Michael,,,after an attempted run on my bank Credit Card a few years ago, the bank person suggested I get a "reloadable Credit Card" to use on Internet purchases as there is no direct connection from it to my checking account, and you can "reload" it whenever you want to to maintain a level you are ok with. I usually keep between $200 to $300 in it. I know Nothing bout any of those other methods that have sprung up for internet purchases,,,I'm just too dang oLD fASHIONED,,,,

I've used e-transfers for years, seems to be the way of the 'two thumb' generation. However I did learn about 'Global transfers' the hard way. Hackers got VISAcard info(happens almost daily..),then 'linkages' to bank accounts, they transfer <$5K, no red flags. If your online bank account has that 'feature', get them to disable it.
hmm DJ.. 'reloadable credit card'? Isn't that really a 'debit card'? Heck my 'access' card is also a debit card... grandaughter taught me that...

I use PayPal tied to a credit card for most online purchases. No Venmo or anything like that for me. And I won't donate anything through GoF***Me, especially since they have frozen so many accounts. Good old cash works best for me, check second and then credit card.

The use of paper checks has narrowed markedly. The government is watching every cent we spend. I have been using the GetUpside app https://arrestyourdebt.com/getupside-review/" rel="nofollow - https://arrestyourdebt.com/getupside-review/ for a long time, and even in this app, sending a paper check by mail is no longer available. Paper checks are canceled at the legislative level. I feel like a lab mouse in a cage being watched. Even when I buy coffee at a gas station, my bank knows about it. We’re being followed everywhere. I understand this is necessary so that no one can avoid paying taxes, but I may soon have a delusion of persecution. lol

Is all fine until go into Ozark hill country, few strong enough signals for wireless devices, stores have Cash Only signs, do not take out of town and many In town checks, no visa or m-card swipe devices do not want them.
Saw such a sign at a smaller restaurant, people sat down to order lunches, noted On Door, sign above cash register, notation INSIDE menu and they got angry as the waitress asked who would get the check, guy held up a card, she told him do not take them, so out of seven people they had less than $20 together. On a road trip, unknown area.
Local car repair shops in town, Local Checks or cash only, NO CCs, no out of town checks. Will take a USPS money order or WU money order. Money is tight, cannot afford deadbeats.

Rogers up here, largest telecom provider, did an 'upgrade' around 4am the other day...'domino effect' took down the ENTIRE network across Canada for a day... ...so we don't have to worry about 'outsiders' taking us down, as it seems nobody here CHECKS to be 100% sure the 'software updates' ACTUALLY work ! Apparently they had no 'plan b', like 'reload previous working version' !! idiots...

Our local credit union had an informational session a while back. The first thing they said was do not use personal checks. Every check you write has your bank account number and routing number on the check. Anyone that wants to go to the trouble can set up a transfer or pay anything they want with these numbers.
They also advised against using debit cards. Debit cards are not protected the same way credit cards are. If someone gets your debit card info, they have access to your bank account and the bank or credit union are not responsible for transactions from your bank account in the same way credit card companies do.
I do not use my credit card to purchase things unless it's a vendor or person I know and trust. Otherwise, I use PayPal. With PayPal, they have no access to any of your bank or credit card accounts. It's also pretty easy to transfer money to a "friend" with no transaction fee.

I use Paypal considerably as well a Chase Card that has a protection program if a unscrupulous vendor tries something stupid. On those limited occasion when a source appears iffy I will try PP, if they refuse then fall back to MO, if that is refused I go elsewhere. CCs and any hard checks only go to tructed sources.

Michael....auctioneers love money transfers, puts you in good standing with them real fast! i've bought several vehicles on online auctions and they say they will mail the titles in 3-6 weeks after the sale. i used a money transfer and recieved my titles within 2-3 days! we were both happy!

I get why cash is still king for a lot of folks—it’s easy, private, and works even when tech decides to fail. There’s no beating that for simplicity. But I’ve found having a solid digital option can really come in handy, especially if you’re dealing with stuff like sending money overseas or swapping currencies. For me, I was looking for something that didn’t eat up so much in fees, and I stumbled on https://ownersclubfx.com" rel="nofollow - ownersclubfx.com . It’s nothing fancy, just straight-up useful when you need to handle things quick and easy without feeling ripped off.

If a person that I don't know can't come in person to pay CASH, I'll only accept a USPS money order. If either party doesn't do as promised, it becomes MAIL FRAUD. I will sometimes accept a check from an unknown, if they are OK with waiting for a check to clear. I have encountered so many difficulties in the past when dealing with those that are not in the US. to the point I won't do business outside of the US. any more I have had many mail me CASH, however I don't recommend that.

As far as mail fraud, good luck with that. I'm sure the USPS has thousands of complaints every day. I doubt they are going to give a small claim much time.

Hey Mr. Not Given
Welcome to the Allis Forum.
This is a place where we watch out for each other.
So tell us a little bit about yourself.
Eg. what State you live in, what you have for Allis Chalmers equipment etc.
