Looking for a source for 7.50 - 20 truck tires.
Need them for the front of my 1954 F-500.   Not safe to drive on the cords.

7:50 is mostly impossible to get anymore. 8:28 also hard to get , 9:00 so-so ,10:00 on up are real common.
7:50 tubes are a little easier to get but  tires are hard and EXPENSIVE! Always cost more than truck is worth.

May have to check to see if a recap is possible.  The cords are showing so it may be too late for one of my tires.

Clay, i was in the tire business over 20 years. Please do not put recaps on your steering axle. 7:50X20 are available. Any mom and pop tire shop should be able to get them for you. Please put new tubes and flaps in your new tires. If you are gonna mount them yourself, you might try M E Miller tire.

Last I knew DOT doesn't allow recaps on the steer

I've buy a lot of tires from Nebraska Tire in Firth.  The original owner has sold it but still has decent prices, I saw 7.50/20 Sampson tires there for less than $110 ea.
Oops the $110 tires were 3 rib tractor tires, truck tires were $200+

Before you spend your money on tires, what kind of wheels? Hard to get tire shops to mount tires on split rims. I hate to be the downer. Maybe you can get luck and find newer style wheel if you have split rims.

Split rim.  Local tire shop has the proper cage for mounting them.
Never liked recaps, anyway.
It will be at least a week before I will have the truck available.  Has a load of feed on it in the barn.

Re-caps are NOT allowed on steer tires! I dont know of any state that would allow them.

Worked for a farmer running a grain haul business. Had put recaps on the steer axle of Ford straight truck with 18ft box. Found out the hard way why they should not be on the front. Fiberglass nose was destroyed when the cap peeled off and fortunately the driver managed to maintain control.

Yeah, they're available, but they're pricey... and then there's tubes, and mounting... and possible rim issues.

If you're not doing a restore, and the truck is good'n solid, consider switching to a 225-70R19.5 wheel/tire combo, as they're tubeless, and much more common.  Not cheap, but much more common.

You can actually BUY almost any size wheel, with any bolt pattern, through Stockton Wheel (yeah, made-to-order, and priced accordingly).  You MIGHT be able to find a bolt pattern/hub combination that is compatible with your spindles...

Or if you're going short distance ag, non-high-speed, you can cut the centers out of the old wheels, and use them to replace the centers of the new. Yes, doing that will likely challenged many highway-type rules.  Going from farm field to farm field and 4 miles of gravel at 35mph isn't highway service... but do it carefully, do it well, and it will be okay.

If you choose this option, and REALLY wanna be serious, find 19.5 wheels/tires from a high-rail (railroad) 1.5t pickup... the rims and wheel steel is 3x thicker than a typical street pickup rim... LOTS of meat in that rim.Wink  My local truck boneyard tears down 4 high-rail trucks a year, that's 16 ghastly-heavy wheels/tires that NOBODY wants... except me... LOL  I put 'em on old 1-ton dually axles, and make carrying frames for stupid-heavy machine tools... they're indestructable.

if you gonna try an use this truck a lot,, I'd look for some 22.5 replacement rims, and corresponding tire size...
I gotta '52 studebaker that has HUB-pilot(NOT BUDD STYLE)7.50-20's on steer,8.25-20's on rear duals, split rims (widow makers) any 22.5 replacements are scarce as hens teeth,,, no late model replacements available cept for custom made..

good you have a shop that will deal with split-rims,,, most will jus run you off, and say good luck, cage or not!!
