I was wondering if there is an easy to check an 8000 series tach and magnetic pickup

The pickup is down by the starter, just below I think...it's been a while. Takes a large wrench but is only just snug...


Not too hard to take out and clean.

I cleaned mine but the tach is still jumpy.

I believe most tach issues are the tach, pretty common on these

If the speed sensor is probed with a multimeter and shows an open circuit, I would assume it is defective. A good speed sensor should read between 100 and 5000 ohms resistance. Installing a speed sensor, screw it in until it just touches the ring gear and back out one full turn. Obviously the two wires from the speed sensor to the tachometer must have continuity. If speed sensor and wiring test good, then the tachometer itself should be at fault.
