Got a universal tractor mirror kit for Christmas and looking for help on how best to install them. I got to believe someone on this forum has done it. where to place the top screw bothers me more than the bottom one. You can see the bracket I have to work with below. The 8000 series appears to have a much better place to put those mirrors than than the 7000 series which is what I am working with. The primary post is really close to where I have to install the mirror brackets. I think I am going to de-install the roof on my 7010 and make sure there aren't any electrical/heat/ac lines that I can get into before I start drilling though. My stadium lights chrome bracket limits how high I can go too with mirror. Also, those mirrors that you have on your 8010 appear to be adjustable and fold in when not needed. Mine are not. You can adjust them but you have to take a wrench to them to fold in and out. I probably should have asked Santa for a better set of mirrors. Sure wish someone with 7000 series mirror install would jump in before I start hacking away at my cab. | Rather than drill holes in cab, make a bracket to attach to the stadium light bracket. Looks like there is one hole close by already? Drill that instead or even clamp it for easy removal when not needed. Just a thought |

| The heater and air conditioning hoses all go up the larger, center cab posts. I believe that there's a small wiring harness in the left front corner post. Just don't drill to deeply and tap the holes to the thread size you want. |

I thought about the stadium light bracket but it seems a little flimsy. I suppose I could stiffen it up. I thought about putting a piece of steel all the way across to hold the mirrors. I would have to relocate the flasher lights on top of the steel which could be done. Originally, I was going to drill all the way through the cab and place a nut on the back side. I think Lynn is suggesting drill a hole and tap it with threads and don't worry about going all the way through. That might be safer although mirror could come out easier. I thought the last time I had the roof off, all of the coolant lines went down the center post so glad to get that confirmed. I still might take the roof off to make sure I know what I am getting into. I might be able to send one bolt all the way through and one bolt tapped with threads. Maybe a hybrid approach. I will keep thinking about this and collecting comments before I tear into it. | Pretty sure you'll have to take the roof off if drilling in to the cab. Doubt the metal is thick enough to tap it. There are plenty of wires in that corner to watch out for. How about drilling a hole in the roof drip rail and put a spacer between it and the light bracket with a bolt? That should stiffen it up. |
