How many remember. How many believe it could happen again. As you look at the world today, it could be closer than we think.

It could happen again.  One thing that really scares me is, looking back 80 years ago how quickly the country mobilized and kicked up production for the war effort, planes, ships, jeeps, weapons, supplies, etc.   TODAY..... we can't even get products to the shelves in a normal economy.... we can't find workers... we can't get people to work....  Not to mention, that we had a LOT of domestic manufacturing.  Today, with our dependence upon sourcing from foreign locations, if Pearl Harbor were to happen again, the outcome would likely be different.  We would all be speaking japanese or german.

Exactly right! our fathers and grandfathers, mothers and grandmothers pulled together and won wars against several nations BY OUT PRODUCING them! we couldn't do that today because we don't have the facilities to do so. It's a fact that the US ramped up production, including building complete new factories, but not on the scale that would be necessary today. We should be producing, not consuming....Trump got that, the current administration does not!

Exactly and on top of that I fear a very large percentage of the citizens wouldn’t step up even if we had the facilities and materials.
We’ve had 80 years to soften up.
They did not.

Not really, just thinking politics has a place. It doesn’t belong here.

WWII Events Deserve Remembrance regardless how political it is to you.

My Dad and Uncle looked down upon the wreck of the Arizona from the supply ship Vestal in 1944, the salvage crews were still working to access some parts of the ship to recover remains.  They served across the Pacific in Patrol Bomber action in a PB-4Y Navy variant of the B24 Liberator.  The memory of the horrible sight of the Arizona PERMANENTLY engrained in those as well other Soldiers those days.

"Some People Did Something" needs to be placed where the Sun will never shine of the person that made said comment.

My dad was 10 when Pearl Harbor happened he still remembers it well. And 80 years ago we committed not to fighting a war, but winning it. In the last 50 we've lost 2 wars due to lack of interest. We either need to not go to war, which isn't always the right decision, or fight to win. Losing like this isn't good for the country.

Local man long since passed away was on the Battleship West Virginia at Pearl Harbor during the attack. Earl told me the Jap planes were so close he could have hit them with a flyswatter! When the abandoned ship order was given Earl said he took off his shoes jumped overboard and swam to shore.Earl served on Navy repair ships for the rest of the war as a welder. Earl said on any ship he served he made sure he was never below the water line!

When on the island of Hawaii last summer I met an elderly Japanese American man.
The girls were shopping so I sat on a bench out front lookin around. He came and sat beside me.
He said he lived on Ford Island as a kid. He was 8 years old when the planes flew in. Said they were so close he could see the pilots face. He said they looked full of hate.
After that his family was sent inland to a Japanese camp. He said it was tough times for quite a while for the Japanese.
When he was In His teens they moved to the island of Hawaii. He became a successful contractor. He pointed to several large resorts his company had built.
He said he never went back.
Was quite an interesting character.

We need to honor all those that contributed to winning WW II. My father worked as a welding instructor and inspector in several factories then later enlisted in the Navy CB's. Mother was a civilian and worked in two different ship yards near Pittsburgh that made LST's. She had a uniform but was in the Civil Service and, I think, paid by the Navy.
Dad said that before the development of the atomic bomb the war with Japan was projected to last for 20 years. Said it was very discouraging to think of that.

My father was on Saipan and Iwo.  He died back in 85.  I never got to ask or find out anything from him.  Like SO MANY back then, they didn't want to talk about it at all.

God forbit we ever have another worldwide conflict; however if we do, we will not have to rally non-military citizens to produce war engaging  hardware.  Modern warfare will decide defeat and victory in a very short time! We need to be morally and physiologically prepared to be able to survive such a calamity.
