My D-10 has a 12 volt system on it, the generator was changed to a 1 wire  alternator with a 3 pole ignition switch. The switch was giving problems so I changed it to a 2 pole switch and added a diode. It bleeds about 2.25 volts, draining about .04 volts a day from the battery, Why?

Are your gauges shutting off

Yes. The diode is part of the plug that plugs the wire into the alternator.  If I unplug it the 2.25 volt drain goes away. Or if I pull the alternator wire off the ignition switch the 2.25 volt drain stops.

I took my meter and the new harness back in to where I got it. They got another one off the shelf. They both tested the same. I went to an auto parts and got another alternator, put it on, still had the drain.

I took the alternator back.
