Fellows, do your corn stalks look a far deeper color of brown this year? Around here they are a far darker brown than in years past. This is in every field, not just one brand of seed. Wondering how the yields are in your area. The farmers are telling me their corn yields are far above average even though our rainfall has been far less than normal.

Was noticing the same thing here. Not sure on yields. Haven't spoken to any of them. In my case a small sample says better than have ever seen but I also had greater input than ever before so will see

Tar spot hit many areas. Most farmers sprayed fungicide and still had tar spot due to variety and timeliness of application. Many fields have down corn due to plants dying early and shrunken kernels so test weights are lower. Yields still are good with some farmers who are not affected by tar spot claiming best corn they ever raised!

Corn was dead ripe early and with warm and humid weather many areas had lately corn stalks begin to rot and have mold on them. Lots of black dust on combines. And tar spot.

This pathogen is an obligate parasite solely of the species Zea mays. The first symptoms are yellowing spots on both upper and lower leaf surfaces. Within the spot develops the characteristic black stromata over the ascomata, along with chlorosis of surrounding tissue. We're only about half done and so far have seen some really good yields.
In one of our better fields I done some spot checks and was running around 265-270, places in the field monitor would hit 300 or better. Now with that being said no we have not had any field avg that high,Lol but have had several in the 200-235 range. And yes that's dry bushels hauled to an elevator with scale tickets to verify. We've also had some that wasn't so good, 130-180 on lighter soil with trees around and small patches you don't expect big yields from. Most of our corn got fungicide, no tar spot that I've seen but did have some gray leaf spot but didn't seem to hurt yields. Also have had some really good bean yields this year too
