Although the hydralic shop wouldn't touch my PS pump an engine machine shop did. Put in new bearings, readysleaved the shaft and new seal. Said the minor scoring and worn gears shoudn't matter. Doesn't seem to since it works well.

However the PS delay is still there. Someone had mentioned checking that "the big nut" is tight. I don't see a big nut. Do you have to remove the front axel to get at it?  Otherwise wherre do I find it?

I also found that the steering shaft spline with the chunk of steel that drives the tie rods is worn and looser than it should be and both the inner and outer tie rod ends have some pay in them. I am replacing the rock shaft with very worn splines. The old girl has seen some use although it looks quite good.

That nut is hidden under the housing that the steering shaft goes into in the pedestal. The D17 manual says to tighten the adjusting nut to 60 inch lbs, then back it off 2 nut flats or 1/3 turn, then stake the nut to the shaft in the key way with a punch. The D19 might be the same. I'd talk to Bill at Sandy Lake and find out for sure.
