I've driven past multiple designated "seed corn" plots after their "harvest"Embarrassed . OMG, a week later the ground had enough green corn coming up like it was broadcast to be "green chopped" like we did for forage in the late '80's Cry . Seems like the loss of seeds should have a correlation  to the cost of your next seasons seed cost ??

Shelled corn just laying on top of the ground or tilled in? Don’t think I have ever seen any in this area do that in the fall, usually needs to be worked in.

2 fields were DEFINITELY on the ground, you could see every row of the corn head, the others were "tilled" though Confused. Seems like I've read that the harvester machines blow a LOT of materials out of their "bowels" ??

1% loss in 200 bushel corn is 2 bushel, you only plant less then half a bushel generally for 30 to 40,000 plants per acre. If you harvest at 15% moisture you can have that much loss, butt shelling, at the head from any machine.

Red Combines here are as bad for replanting as the green, only those still running Gleaners are leaving fairly unplanted fields.  Notably there are Bean Fields north of here that have a 10% field corn growth in them, and corn that has enough beans to almost qualify as a second crop, ALL harvested of Green and Red Combines.

Most of the Seed Corn I've seen harvested was picked whole ear. Must have some butt shelling if they are leaving corn.

i can tell; you guys have never been around seed corn.  the ears are terribe looking.  if it makes 30bpa; that's a good yield.  the seed corn companies have there own machines to harvest.    just head loss alone is unbelieveable!

I agree with tomNE the Seed Corn I have seen around Schoolcraft,Constantine and Three Rivers Mi would not be anything a Farmer would be proud of. Reminds me of what the Old Timers called "Tucket Corn"!
