What is the number for the bulb used in the headlamp for a CA converted to 12 volt?

1156 will work. But I always recommend the 199 heavy filament (heavy truck version) because of the big time vibrations because of no suspension. They last longer. BTW, make sure the headlight reflectors are in great shape. You lose a lot of light with a dulled faded out reflector. The aftermarket also offers LED bulbs now to.  Optional.   HTH

When I got my CA over 20 years ago, the headlights were broken and the reflectors were in poor condition. I’ve heard of people lining them with tin foil, painting them white, and using that spray chrome paint. What I did was get a pair of those inexpensive rubber tractor work lights. I trimmed them down to the point where they fit in the original headlight buckets with the clamp to hold them in. They look close enough to the original that if you aren’t paying attention you don’t notice the fact they’re sealed beams.

It was a winter project a couple years ago that I blasted painted and rebuilt all the headlights on my tractors. Over 50 of them. I bought the gasket and reflectors new and used the 1195 bulb.
