Looked at a CA, bald rear tires, badly faded paint, owner said he repainted it about seven years ago, tool box cut away to make room for a big 12 volt battery. engine over hauled a few years ago, but it could not be started because battery was dead, wireing harnes in bad shape. hand clutch works but installed backwards,  needs new brake bands installed, after market junk seat, tin work is fair with some rust, has a loader and belly finish mower with it. owner wants $1800 for it the way it sets. is it worth  that  much?

That seems a little high considering it has bald rear tires.

Without hearing the engine run,who KNOWS what was really 'overhauled' a 'few' years ago.

I'd have thought that when that was done, the wiring would have been fixed, repaired the battery box, etc. BEFORE repainting it.

Mind you there's that overpriced B here where the paint stuck real good to the plugs, wires, filter, etc.!

Given what else could be bad($$$), maybe $1000 is fair, I wouldn't go any higher unless I needed the loader and mower.

For what it's worth, I bought my 55CA for $1500 delivered, original paint and running.

Sounds to me yer lookin at a loader and belly mower attached to a heavy piece of cast iron with some faded orange paint on it.

I think that is high for not seeing it run.  That said remember that if it is running with a good belly mower and a working hand clutch the CA is a dynamite mower.  An awful lot better than then what they are selling now in the lawn or garden tractor field.
Good Luck!

Well the loader is worth a couple hundered and a woods Belly mower at least 700 so its only $900 dollars. jump it with a truck if it runs its a good tractor If its locked up its not.neww tires will cost a grand and you'll have a great mower.

What does "hand clutch works but installed backwards" mean? Is it on the left side (many of us would prefer the clutch on the left side)? Agree with the others, would hesitate on his asking price until had a chance to hear it run and try out the tractor and equipment. Installing new brakes involves a lot of work and a crane to remove the finals; spindles for the mower are also somewhat expensive. I recently purchased a CA with excellent tin, rebuilt engine, like new tires, and new brakes with a L59 Woods mower in good condition for less than $1500. Paint is badly faded tho. It has some issues with the engine clutch and electrical system so it is going to be my winter project, hope to have it looking new and have my L306 under it for next year's mowing season. The L59 is under my D12 for trail mowing service.

I've had tractors practically given to me in better shape than what you describe without the implements. I think I would keep looking. Best tractor I found this year had the motor locked but otherwise was in fantastic original condition. Sheetmetal a 9.9 out of 10. I would keep looking and locked motor deals will be the best and that is actually the easiest thing to fix. Can you imagine what all you'll find after yo get one like that home?
