My 175 has a pump on the side, I've seen others that have the pump on the motor instead. Anybody know what year they switched? I'm looking at buying another 175 and it has the pump on the motor.
Thanks

Front pump began at s/n 175-2035 in late 1973.

Cost reduction.... changed pump eliminated bevel gear hollow shaft, along with power steering change=  $250 per tractor we were told savings plus less assy time.

Did the front axle change at the same time as the pump or prior?

The change made the front support (under the radiator) a hollow box weldment, instead of a casting with steering gears inside. It then housed the hydraulic pump mounted inside of it. The wide front axle design changed and a narrow front axle/single front wheel were no longer available. The GPM's of the hydraulic pump were reduced about 10% or so because of direct drive/engine speed, where the old system was a speed up drive.
