I bought an early 190xt to use as a donor tractor. Engine spins over, camshaft/gear needs replacing. Dilemma is, now I don't wanna see the tractor go completely out of service forever if I can put a camshaft and gear in it. Heck I'd have an extra tractor for just riding around or pulling hay wagons and stuff. (Wife don't know my idea yet). I need to figure out where and which camshaft and gear I'll need. Any ideas?

You need to get yours apart and see if you have the old design (pressed on gear) or the updated design (4 inch long bolt with flatwasher).  Some of those engines broke camshafts, and it seemed to be usually related to a tractor that did a lot of hydraulic work, like say maybe a loader. Anyway, the "fix" was a design change to use a 4 inch long 7/16" gr8 bolt to put the camshafts nose in compression, making it stronger.  This is what you want;  one with a bolt in the nose of the camshaft to make it stronger. You've been schooled on the possibility of something getting into the hydraulic pump causing it to lock up. Good used parts are available thru salvage yards. There are also updated timing gears that are "hard" where older engines had "soft" gears. I was taught 45 years ago to not be concerned about mixing hard and soft gears and there will certainly be those who disagree with that theology. I can tell you, I've never had any failures of timing gears mixing hard and soft. Who could afford to change out every single timing gear on an old tractor ??

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping you would be seeing my post. And your right about the hydraulic issues. I'm the same person that took out the intermediate shaft and gears on my other 190xt. That's what I originally picked this tractor up for. But now that I sat in the seat I really don't wanna scrap either of them. I think I got some kinda orange bug or something. And thanks for mentioning the hard/ soft gear question before I even asked it. I'll be reloading the 190 and bringing it to my garage to try and repair it. Thanks again for the reply, John

I got my updated gear and camshaft from agkits.com

I put all hard gears in mine when I rebuilt it a couple years ago. But like the dr said. I think I had $2500 into new gears. Crank gear is NLA so I used the later wide one and has to machine the back side down to meet the same width. Only one I couldn’t find was that early injection pump gear, but mine looked fine.

Replaced what gears look back and run er. The bad ones will have flaking or putting in the teeth.
