Just how rare are they I have one that I overhauled last year and use it for mowing my yard. So should I continue using it or buy something else and save this .

To find any of these machines from the time period in good working order is rare. I personally don't subscribe to the idea of preserving old machines by not using them. I say use it and enjoy it. The value of a "preserved" unit won't likely increase substantially in the future, so have fun.

also the nice thing with these older tractors. They used real bearings in much of it so they last longer and you can replace them when needed

Use it!!! I had been looking for a 720 for years, not many were sold in our area for some reason or maybe no one is selling them lol. Anyway, 10 years ago I went out of state to PA to buy a 720 that had some fire damage due to a bad bearing on the mowing deck overheating so much that it caught the grass clipping laying on the deck to catch fire. Long story short, after pulling the engine, making a new wiring harness, I completely stripped it, replacing anything that needed to be replaced and did a complete paint job. Rebuilt the mower deck and painted it also. Spent many months of spare time getting it to my satisfaction. Took it to shows but that was about it. Some light use around the house but with all the hard work I put into I was afraid to scratch it lol. Thought some day it would be worth more than the sizable amount I put into it. And then it hit me, I’m gonna miss out on all the fun I could have using it. Since then I was fortunate to find another 720 11/2 hrs away. I’ve bought several of the 720 attachments, a sickle mower, snow thrower, Danco brush hog and 2 blades. I found out how good these little tractors are, they do a ton of work for me. I also have a 917H since 1988. These things are made like tanks and I refuse to buy anything new to replace them as long as I
can get parts. The sickle mower gets used a lot as well as the other 720 with the 60” belly mower. I was just gonna show them until I found out how much work and enjoyment they give me putting them to work.

My perspective is that old tractors are meant to enjoy. That means different things to different folks. A 718H is one of hte scarcer models, and they are not known for their survival rate, so if enjoying it means using it as a daily driver, just make sure you are also comfortable with rebuilding the motor again, should that day come...or...use the time to watch for a backup engine. The best thing about a 718 is the big Kohler, otherwise, something like a 716H is a dime a dozen and you could run one of those.

I have a 720H. When I got it the engine had just been replaced with a Briggs&Stratton. The old engine and parts are in a box that I have never opened and looked at. It's working fine with the B&S engine. The 720H has an AC loader on it.
