Hello, I have a 40 wc styled. I get a  kind of grinding noise. it is in the drive train. It hard to explain. Does not matter what gear or speed, if driving it only grinds when the govener applies power? It sounds like a bad bearing but something like that would consistantly make noise this has no pattern. The clutch does not slip. example driving the tractor up a grade the noise would almost chug along with the tractor as it applies and backs off power to maintain speed. Jeff

Jeff, wheel clamps will make that kind of noise if they had been rusted shut for many years and all of a sudden broke loose for one reason or another.  Low oil in the final drives could also do that.  You are probably right about the bearing, I am just trying to be optimistic.

If it only does it when its moving check the wheel nuts first. As my papa always said, don't overthink the problem. HTH

I know the govener increases engine speed to maintain, But this thing sounds like the clutch is engaging then disengaging with the governer each time. like it only makes the noise when there is torque pressent, actually putting power to the wheels, if it rolls say down a hill in gear with clutch out it doesnt make any noise but as soon as you start up a hill it makes the grinding noise.

Mine does something like that. When you push the clutch in it is quiet but when you let it off you get a light noise.

I think it's part of a WC
