Hello all. I am located in Northeast Ohio 60 miles east of Cleveland along the beautiful shores of Lake Erie. I have looked at a JD 350B and passed on it. Will be looking at a Cletrac and a Cat D2 Also, I will be looking at a HD5 soon. I found steering clutch videos on HD6, but none on HD5. I like that you dont need to break track. What are the differences from the HD5 and HD6? Looking for something to keep at the farm that we just bought. I am mechanically inclined, but I am not as young as I used to be........  Thanks all

HD5 and 6 basically the same except the engine. same transmission , rear end and finals except later 6 used more splines on sprocket shaft. 6 uses the 4 cylinder 4 stroke buda/allis engine. a good engine but parts are getting difficult to find. the 5 uses the 2-71 detroit and parts readily available. ------------- Me -C,U,UC,WC,WD45,190XT,TL-12,145T,HD6G,HD16,HD20 Dad- WD, D17D, D19D, RT100A, 7020, 7080,7580, 2-8550's, 2-S77, HD15 |

Detroit parts are getting slim for the 53 & 71 series DD shops are no longer selling DD produced parts where all are aftermarket Leads to all manner of horror stories. |

The HD6 uses the same rear cases as the HD5 as well as sprockets , rollers, idler , and track with only truck frame being longer on the HD6, Depending on late HD6 the steering clutches were the same in both machines as dry unite but later HD11 clutch friction plates can be installed in either machine giving bi-metal ceramic facings instead of fiber friction discs - a common update used by many . Any machine that is over 50 years or 70 years old is going to present a problem in finding some parts but it seems except for track itself there are still parts around for both machines . ------------- Faith isn't a jump in the dark.
