I'm rebuilding a C engine and it had safety wire to secure the connecting rod bolts and the heads of the crankshaft mains. Now that I'm putting it back together, I expected to go down to the local auto parts store and buy safety wire. None of them knew what I was talking about and none of them have it. So, I'm wondering: Where I can get safety wire, and 2) Do people still use the practice of using safety wire, and 3) If they don't use safety wire, what do they use? ------------- "People are human beings, produced by the society in which they live. I am a firm believer in safety wire. I believe the CE engine would need .041 Nichrome wire. The safety wire pliers are great but for a small job you can get by without them, the good ones are about $90. I bought a pair from HF and they were junk. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

| If they are torqued, they will stay. If one is not torqued and wired, it will brake the bolt or wire eventually. MACK |

Main bolts were originally safety wired. Bought the pliers and wire and learned how to do it. I don't think it was necessary but what the hay. You can see in the pictures there was a little learning curve, wire is cheap!
