Hello All,

Great site, love the wealth of information. First the details: I inherited a 1969 AC B-110 lawn tractor w/ a B&S 10hp L-Head and it's been great for a few years now, but this year it had a hard time starting. I was getting a weak spark and was thinking of upgrading the ignition to a magnetron electronic ignition. The B&S support said it could be done if I sent the flywheel in to get it repolarized (repolarization is free, just a shipping cost). When I got the shroud off, I saw that someone was busy building a nest on the magneto. Here's my question: the mag is rusted up pretty bad, should I just replace it or should I still upgrade? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

     thanks,  GM

I have had great results by cleaning the flywheel and the coil. Set the gap correctly and add new points and condenser. Having that unit you should check out  http://www.simpletractors.com - http://www.simpletractors.com

Thanks for the quick reply, It's probably a good idea to keep it as original as possible. The fly wheel magnet can hold a 12" screwdriver out straight by the blade, so it's plenty strong.
I had forgotten about that site. Great nostalgia (check out my new avatar).
