- WHAT THE AD SAYS - $11,500 firm - OBO - Needs battery - Must go this weekend - Wife says it has to go - Over $5,000 in extras - Aftermarket exhaust, sounds great - Custom paint - New plastics - Cosmetic flaws typical for its age - Salvage title - Barn find - Instant classic - Good beginner bike - Mechanic's special - Sold "as is" - Tires still good for another season - Text only, I don't check e-mail - Thinning the herd - I will send you a cashier's check and you can wire me the balance
Seems this is true of anything with wheels or tracks and how adds are written , this explains a cycle but could be anything
That’s right, I can translate your average Craigslist "motorcycle for sale" ad into the truth. https%3A%2F%2Fwww.revzilla.com%2Fcommon-tread%2Fhow-to-translate-motorcycle-ads%3Futm_source%3Dfacebook%26utm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_campaign%3Dboosted-posts%257Ctpfn-branding%26utm_content%3Dnew-rider-exp-value-add%26utm_term%3Dhow-to-translate-motorcycle-ads-022321-%257Ctpfn%26fbclid%3DIwAR2l_XTFnbwQ12ioJfIsFm03mWqNiH-wVbB_FXU_gA7kkq7FBLgtSYoUCLc&locale=en_US&sdk=joey" rel="nofollow - - It’s a useful skill developed from countless wasted hours looking at ads when I should have been doing paying work. And now, at absolutely no charge to you, I’m going to share that hard-earned wisdom. Here are some phrases you’re likely to see in “motorcycle for sale” ads and what they really mean.

-
- - Someone please give me $10,000
- - Short of selling a kidney, I have no means of paying off the $7,500 balance on the loan on this $5,000 bike
- - The 10-year-old gasoline in there has turned to mica
- - At least the damn thing hasn't seized and I'm gambling you won't show up with a compression gauge
- - The payoff on the loan is way more than it's worth so I have to get an inflated price
- - I drive my car every day because it has air conditioning and I'm lazy
- - Clutch is fried from playing Rickey Dragracer at every light and the bike now handles like a garbage truck
- - Obnoxiously loud would be an improvement; also, runs poorly
- - Been crashed
- - Been crashed
- - Been crashed
- - Mice ate holes in the air filter
- - Looks dated
- - I know, because it's been collecting dust in my garage for 15 years while I've been hoping it would go up in value
- - My only hope of unloading this junk is finding an uninformed and gullible buyer
- - You probably won't make it home from the sale without breaking down
- - - Not even God knows what's in that pile of parts
- - I just realized I'm trying to sell a motorcycle at the worst time of the year
- - I am too stoned and lazy to take a photo, use capital letters or punctuation, or type more than six words, so just imagine how well I've cared for this motorcycle
- - Wanted: one clueless buyer with cash

Some additions:

Call for price.               You'd better be sitting when you hear price.
Ran when parked.              Too much work to get runnning/verify broken
No battery.                   I didn't upkeep unit. Oil change? Never.
Fresh paint.                  Rust is a great paint primer, right?
Barn find.                    Plausible deniability for lies on condition.
Hurry, won't last.            Been trying to sell POS for months...
Needs simple fix to use.      Buyer must be idiot to believe seller not
do repair himself to get better price.
Tires hold air.               I am just as suprised as you they don't leak or haven't exploded
Original owner/family.        Congrats!! You pay extra for sentimentally.

Nothing to add but have a question since were on the subject.

I've been watching a drill listed for sale by the owner for 3 months now and he was originally asking $144,000 until a week ago or so, now he's asking $145,058.  Confused

Maybe that's the amount of interest the note at the bank has racked up in the last 3 months.  LOL!!

Model CA for sale.        I am no longer suprised seeing CA grill sticker on Model C tractors. Jealousy? Usually, the CA sticker is not recently added.

Ford 390 engine f/s.        Its a 352 or 360, but you'll not know it until you tear it apart for rebuild. (Always check stroke through spark plug hole).
