Didn't get to go to the Reedsburg plow day, been itching to try this old girl out. Let's do some 'research'. Water hemp is getting terrible around here, have heard moldboarding will bury the seed and help, so let's give it a try. Just a small plot but should be enough to find out what I want to know. First time out with this plow, took awhile to get it to digest the cornstalks. Adjusted the coulters a bit and the depth. New gauge wheel worked good. By the time I quit it was working like a champ.   |

| When Dad bought his #73 plow for our WD-45, he was disappointed with how far it didn't raise off of the ground. After some thought and a quick trip to the local blacksmith shop, they laid a piece of steel the width and height of the lift arms on top of each lift arm. They made a couple of ears to work as clamps (one bolting thru the lift arm end hole) and because they were 3 inches or so longer reinstalled the lift latches on them. Now with longer and taller lift arms the plow had to have the PTO shaft removed so the plows tongue didn't hit it. |

Thanks guys. Kenny, yes the cover boards are doing there job, that's why I wanted a set. The dirt really worked up nice. Other than the dead furrows, I could probably just plant it. Brian, it looks better in the picture than in person. Not that it's bad, just a little crooked here and there from watching the plow more than where I was going! Doc, that is interesting. This tractor generally raises it far enough but not always at the end of the field. This has me stumped a little. The 73 is quite a bit heavier than the 53 or 63 that I have used in the past. Have had the PTO shaft out of both 45's for quite awhile now. Don't have a lot of that type of work for them right now. Chris, not sure what it weighs, you're probably close with the 5000 lb. guess. Plowing is just like anything else, experience is the best teacher. I've got a long way to go but enthusiastic to learn. If I were going to do a bunch more plowing I would mount a land-side dual, will definitely get pics if that happens! Going to try this tractor on the IH disc today, we'll see how she does.
