"Soon after the construction of the Panama Canal was commenced the Isthmian Canal Commission bought from the Allis-Chalmers Company the first stone crushing plant used in the production of crushed stone for concrete work.  This plant consisted of one No. 8 Style "K" and two No. 5 Style "K" Allis-Chalmers "Gates" Crushers, and the necessary auxiliary equipment.  The plant was designed by the Allis-Chalmers Company and erected by the Isthmian Canal Commission near Ancon.  Its capacity was about 1,000 cubic yards per day of eight hours."

I was in Panama in January and met with the archelogist who was looking for information on Allis-Chalmers crushes installed in the late 30's when they started to build the third lane. That project was abandoned in 1942 due to the war. They are now building the third lane and hope to have it operational by 2014. Because it is wider than the one started in the late 30's the old abandoned plants have to be removed including Allis-Chalmers cruchers. Everything had to be documented first. I hope to write a story on this for OAN.
