We have a 615 Industrial backhoe and snapped the rear axle (part # 231666). Removed the axle yesterday (both pieces) and now looking for a replacement. We have heard that the D14 and D15 tractors use the same axle, does anyone know if that is correct?

According to the parts books both the D14 and D15 used that same axle.  231666 is the old part number, the current part number is 70231666, you may want to use both in your search.

We were pulling out a stump and being a little too aggressive as we were changing the angle / pulling at the same time.

Interesting.  Page 163 in the D14 online parts books, is related to the Power Director control or Shuttle control.  The Final Drive drawing is on page 173.  I don't see any note on page 174 about the axle being just for a shuttle tractor.

Jim

I double checked and got the same info.

This Parts Catalog # D40 I downloaded from Grandpas Tractors.
............................................

Printed date on Cover Oct. 1961 , after D-14 Model ended.
...........................................

Has the name Hubert Bradley written on the cover.

Catalog dated Oct. 1961. Axle for reg. D-14 P/N 227522.

I checked D-15 Parts Catalog D-55, March 1966

Lists just one axle P. 131 item 15 P/N 231666

I am thinking the on line catalogs are more current than the printed one you are looking at and the numbers were superseded. The ad that steve(ill) posted shows both numbers. What other final drive parts, besides the axle, show as just for a shuttle tractor?

Back when I had my I-60 TLB, I broke several rear axles. They are the same as a D14/15.  I think the weight of the backhoe is a little too much. Upgraded to a 715 and then the current 715B

Sounds like axle breaking is common with hoe - broke 3 on my HD4 crawler when I had the backhoe attached to machine - also wore bearing bore in rear housing and had to have them machined
