Trying to keep my Grandfathers 1973 712H alive and kicking.

Recently parked the unit in the garage and went to use again. Engine started perfect but it will not go forward or reverse.

I have checked the tranny fluid and it appeared full and a good clean color of red.

Thanks in advance

My 916H has a latch on the rear end to allow it to disengage the drive so it can be rolled by hand. Not sure if you have the same thing on your 712H. It is on the top left side of the rear end. I think you pull it up to disengage and push it down to engage the drive. (I might have that backwards.) Could be your drive is disengaged. If you can push the tractor and the rear wheels turn fairly easily, you are disengaged.

that one should have the two little buttons on top of hydro unit that you push down the spring loaded bracket to disengage hydro.

Yup! If I remember correctly, my 716H had the bracket on top of the rear. Push the handle down to disengage. As Dave mentioned pushing the two buttons in.

When you pull it up make sure the pins come up they’re getting sticky after all these years

Great point Alvin!  I forgot all about that little problem. My 716H, the buttons used to stilck. A little WD40 around the buttons, and working them in and out fixed the ole' button stick problem. Had a 712H that had the same problem. One button would stick...
