About a year ago I found my D 15 has a bent rear axle shaft and a chipped bull gear tooth . I now have a good donor that I plan to put new seals , etc in and then swap the final drive out . I'm sure to have questions along the way . Thanks in advance !

While a strong strap sling will support it, I made a steel  one, bolts to the FD. Made it easier to get the right height and 'angles' to slide it back in....
I have an overhead beam, trolleys and chain hoists...make the job pleasant....
I will take pictures IF I can find the silly 'jig'......

Thanks Jay and Fred . I did the brakes when I pulled the final drive last year . Have the donor bull gear and bearings out now . Next up is the pinion shaft . So far , so good .

I'm sure you are knowledgeable of this but, you should only do one side at a time.  Put it all back together and then the other side.

Cut it off with cut off grinder wheel. Then use new snap ring.          MACK

Seems kinda expensive to me . Agco lists that lock ring for $22 . Still don't have mine off but haven't cut it yet . Thanks

been looking at the drawings, the snapring seems like an 'infernal' one.... maybe 2 slotted screwdrivers, to pry it up ,once you get it started, 'tease' it out of the slot ? Never had mine that far apart.....
it looks easier than doing my taxes though..... 4 hrs labour AND I had to pay.....

ALLIS did not make snap rings ... they bought them as hardware.. Do the same.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Yeah Steve . Plan to ask Brenda if they have a generic lock ring when I order the bearings and seals . Thanks

ALLIS will charge 5 x as much as you can get one at the hardware store.

ALLIS did not make bearings or seals either..

My favorite son posted a picture for me . Hard to believe that something this size could be bent . This is the good one . Thanks

Here's the 'final drive lifting plate' in action ! Simple really, flat plate of steel with 6 holes, 2" sq tubing about a foot long, with 2 'eyes' welded to it. With 2 chain hoists I can get it 'aligned' very well to slide back on. chain hoists are on trolleys on an overhead 8" Ibeam. yellow tubing are '1x2 spacers'. It's a lot safer than the single sling, easy 1 man operation.

That's a nice setup Jay . I'll just use the wide strap I have . I'm still redoing the donor final drive and a long way from installing it . Thanks for sharing !

Finally got the lock ring off . Came off easy after I cut it , like Mack suggested . Now to remove these 2 bearings and the seal . Thanks !

Google Motion Industries store locator. Take your old bearings and seals with and they will match them up. The best 'bang for your buck' in my opinion.

FYI the seals on the diff case where the axle goes in are National #471765. You can put TWO of them in place of the 'wider' OEM ones. This should prevent oil from getting onto the brake shoes....
Sad thing is I have 2 sitting here in front on me....

The seals Jay mention can also be had as SKF 12458. I only used one per side and had no leaks... been several years now.

I tossed (er, carefully installed...) two in per side  on the theory they'd be on 'new' part of the shafting, 2 is better than 1 and ,well, only $4 a piece and I 'hopefully' won't ever have 'wet' brakes again.........

Have the donor final drive on my engine stand . Ran a 3/8-16 tap in the bull gear oil pan holes . Always try to do that and also use new bolts . Crazy how much trash was in the threads . Who knows what's happened over 60 years , I guess . I plan to install the bull gear with new bearings and a seal first while I can rotate it upside down , then I'll do the pinion shaft . I'm hoping that's a good plan . Thanks !

About ready to order parts and have a question . Agco site lists a 70244961 pinion shaft outer bearing seal . My service manual doesn't show one and my pinion shaft didn't have one , only had the inner seal 70261958V . Anyone else run into this ? THANKS !

I ordered both pinion shaft seals . Rather have an extra than be short one . Plan to pack my bearings and with wheel bearing grease unless someone else has a better idea . Thanks
