| Does anyone on here know about why my allis HD3 crawler pumps all the oil out of the power director into the hydraulics ? When you dump oil into the power director you can hear the air coming out of the hydraulic breather cap . I have a repair manual there looks to be seals in the torque tube . Will I have to pull the torque tube completely out to change them ? |

I don't have my books here but I'm sure you can get the shuttle out without splitting tractor apart.
Dont know about seals as I've never had to look. shuttle fluid is separate from hydraulics for blade....... ------------- HD3 |

| It sucks all oil out of the power director and then when the hydraulic get full it runs out of the hydraulic breather . My repair manual sez the pan on the bottom of the torque is suppose to come off . There is 16 bolts that hold it on but it looks like there no gap or seam to where it should split . I am new on here . Trying to get information on H3 and HD3 is hard to find . |

Chainsawman I notice that you are a new member to the Allis Forum, having just joined a couple days ago. Just wanted to clarify your understanding of Power Director and Shuttle. Allis came out with the Power Director feature in 1957 with Models D-14 and D-17. It is the Hand Lever to the right of the Steering Wheel and has 3 positions. The Power Director is a 2 speed gear system contained fully in oil. It provides 2 speeds in any gear, often referred to High and Low Range. H3 and HD3 Crawlers came from the Factory with a Shuttle Clutch as standard equipment. The Shuttle Clutch is located to the Left of the Fuel Tank. The gearing inside, also in oil, provides a means of changing from Forward Motion to Rearward Motion simply by moving the Lever Forward and aft. According to the Operators Instruction Manual, the Crawler could be ordered with a Power Director in place of the Shuttle. Also some D-14, D-15, and D-17 Industrial Models have a Shuttle Clutch in place of the Power Director. Gary |

| I am new here , I wanted information on the seals that are in the torque tube . There has to be a seal out for it to suck the oil out of the center of the crawler to the hydraulic system . I also wanted information on if I had to remove the torque tube to replace them and information on the removal of the pan on the hydraulic system . The pan on the hydraulic system looks like cast and you can not remove it , I can not find a seam where it should come apart. |

The H3 and HD3 shared over 50% of parts with D-15 industrial tractor. Yes, torque tube needs to come out, and you will want to take the pan off of the PD/shuttle. There are seals on the front of the PD/shuttle, and I'd replace them all and check any plugs in the compartments, as well. The hyd pump is driven off the belt pulley mount. That means that the oil is going forward and past the seal in the input of the gear pump. Will have to go look at my h3 to get a better understanding of how this is happening |

Pumping oil from the power director into the hydraulics? Is it possible that the machine sat in a freezing environment for a long period of time allowing ice to develop inside the case of the PD reservoir, expanded against the seal between the two housings and popped a seal between the PD Housing and the hydraulics? | The crawler sat in a building for 20 years . I bought it a year ago and rebuilt the moter . Was using it this spring and power director brass shifting bearing went out . Split it got that fixed and now the oil is being pump into hydraulic. The crawler has set in a lot of below zero weather . I guess I am going to pull the torque tube and put all new bearings and seals in it. I would like to thank everyone who has gave me there knowledge about . |

reprints of parts and service manuals are available from Jensales and hate to say it but torque tube will have to come out if it's the seal on engine clutch shaft between hydraulic tank part of torque tube and shuttle clutch, it is 2 seals back to back, part number is 227677 [ you may have to put a 70 in front of that number] Another possible leak is seals on power take off shaft again 2 seal setup part number 227679 [ may need the 70 added to the front of number also] there are also a couple of plugs on the idler shaft in there good luck |
