Can anyone tell me if a bottom could be “dropped” on a 4 bottom 2000 mono-frame plow? I found a good deal on a 4-16 mono-frame plow but I don’t think my d-17 will handle it. I pull a 3-16 JD now but I’m still not sure if I could handle it. Anything else I should look at on this plow? I’m not very familiar with the hydraulic reset on these is it a decent plow?

They are a good plow. Be sure your lays are hard surface, as this plow will wear out non hard surfaced ones quickly.

Not sure, it isn't a 3 with the extension? If it is that would make it simple.  Hyd reset or spring trip?  That would also make a difference.  I guess I don't have a good answer for you.

No way in he** any D17 could pull that plow. I had a 2000 series 4 x 16 years ago and it was all my 200 wanted most of the time if plowing at a decent depth. I did have a Midwest buster bar harrow on it but still no way a D17 could handle it even without a harrow.

If its a 3 bottom base with the 4th bottom add on yes. If its a 4 bottom base no. Better have at least a 180 to handle 4 .

Travis2766, Which soil type is your farm's in Portage County WI;
-Miami Sand, Sandy loam, Stoney Sand, Loam, or Stoney Loam?
-Marshall Sand, Gravelly Loam?
-Portage Silt Loam, Sandy Loam, Stoney Sandy Loam?
-Wabash Loam?
-Muck?
Here's a NRCS weblink to your county's soils.

No argument that a beefier AC 180 or 200 would be better pulling the AC 2000 4-16. Plowing depends on many variables though. If you plan to plow at a 6-7" depth, then perhaps a healthy G226 D17 power director with an operational 3pt Traction Booster might pull the AC 2000 monobeam 4-16? If you have a sandy verses a muck type soil, then maybe give the 4-16 a try before removing a bottom?  The D17's power director can allow good momentums of opportunities per specific factors such as field terrains, prior field crops(alfalfa, legumes, etc), atmospheric temperatures, etc....  A nicely leveled integrated AC 2000 plow can usually be pulled easier than many other plow brands of it's era (1980s). It is a very good plow. If your D17's right furrow tires are spun/moved out as possible, the AC 2000's center of draft becomes better positioned for ease of pulling it. Try not to weigh down your D17. Allow it's drive tires some slippage to cooperate with it's traction booster.  Thought - Remember that the initial 1967 AC 180 gas was designed & produced nearly 100 units with a G226 engine before it's higher rpms(1650 increased to 2000) vibrated operator's feet asleep & prompted AC engineers to replace the G226 with the G2500 engine.

The question was - can he drop a unit off a 2000 4 bottom mono frame plow, to make it 3 bottom - not will a 17 pull a 4 bottom plow - follow the one answer that explains if  its a 3 bottom base with one added on , dont think it is as all ive seen were 4 - most 3 bottom were 3 pt ; mono frames are sweet to run

will add, I have a 3-18 I use on my  185, had a 4-16 I parted out, was really worn.  Also have a 5-16 plus the extension to make 6, don't use it, would like to get tractor for it or sell the plow.

Travis2766, there were 2 phases of the AC 2000 plows.
The early phase was introduced in the early 1970s with only 16” wide bottoms. These had a vertical clearance of 28.5” & 28” fore-and-aft spacing. They were offered in 3, 4, or 5 bottom sizes. Each was expandable by 1 bottom.
The later phase was introduced in the late 1970s. These added a 6 bottom expandable to 7. They offered 32” of vertical clearance & 31” fore-and-aft spacing. 3 18” wide versions were added; 4, 5, & 6 all expandable by 1 bottom.

Only if the rear bottom has a bolted flange ahead of it on the main beam. It will be obvious if it does.

On another note, based on my experience as I have owned a Deere 555 3x16 and do own an Allis 4x18, that a Deere 3x16 plow IMO pulls as heavy as a 4 bottom monoframe Allis if they are both set correctly, but I never pulled either with a D17. I have plowed with my mounted #74 4x14 Allis plow with my D17 in hard alfalfa sod but there are so many variables in soil type and moisture I'd rather pull a 3 bottom with a D17.

Travis2766, I’m just wondering what became of your endeavor. Did you purchase the AC 2000 monobeam plow?

I decided to pass on it, I think it would have been too hard of a pull on my tractor. I would love to find one in a three bottom but I’ll have to settle for my JD 3-16 for now.

What JD 3 x 16 plow did you get? I have a trailer set that are sweet to use. I do love the Allis semi mount 4 bottom but my father had to modify some Oliver cover boards to do a nice job. Now they can turn over 4-5’ rye. My little JD does not handle tall material well but does really make a smooth, level job.

I’ve got a Deere 3-16 semi mounted, I’ve had it for a few years. It does ok but it’s a trip bottom and they don’t really work especially in all the rocks I have.

They’re not seized, I can trip them from the back with a wrench to tip the bottoms to change parts. The problem is their is a round shim that goes over a roller cam on the inside and I think the shim is broken/gone. The middle bottom is tipped down about an inch and a half lower on the point that the rest of them so I get a “ridge” from that deeper bottom. I got it with the intension of replacing the plow after a few years but just haven’t done it yet.
