Wrong color I know but I need to remove the side markers from my jd 7000 4 row wide planter. I can't find in the manual how to go about this, any suggestions or tricks to make it easier? Thanks ------------- 1955 WD-45 with factory PS |

Holy [IMG]uploads/1/censored.bmp">, freedguy googled something??? But....a three part video? What the heck, it ain’t that complicated. So, you say taking off the markers, are you replacing, repair and replace, not using anymore at all? That can affect whether you are taking out the lifting and row switching cables and valve. But to take off just the markers, take the pin out of the clevis on the cable, then take the pin out of the breakaway hinge and it comes right off. We store ours in a low shed and take them off every year. How many rows? There’s a few more pieces on 8 rows and up. |

We bought a JD 7000 6 row pull type planter with the "Kinze" units last year. We made it a 6 row 3 pt replant planter. So the markers, hitch, drive wheels had to go. The markers, I took out with a torch, lines and all. What a complicated setup for markers. Thanks for the fast replies. I'm storing it in a low shed is the reason for removal. They need to be in the "lowered position" to be removed correct? I just don't want to mess up the cable system for the markers. I will check for the 3 part video as well. ------------- 1955 WD-45 with factory PS |

The actual marker arms come pretty simple, if I remember right. Pull a pin and a couple of bolts and the rest of the assembly stays put inside the frame. Leon B MO ------------- Uncle always said "Fill the back of the shovel and the front will take care of itself". |

If you pull the clevis pin from the cable, you don't have to lower it with hydraulics, just set the marker on the ground. Although, if adjusted to pull up tight, that may not come out very easily.

Complicated setup for markers.....well, maybe so, IDK, never had much issues with it working incorrectly. The JD 7000 is an incredibly well respected planter. I had an Allis planter before we bought our 7000 4 row (now have a 7000 8 row). The Allis planter was cheap and chincy and flimsy all the way around compared to the JD. But I know, JD is the antichrist!

I concur with TBONE on this one, how much simpler could the marker system be on a planter (yes we run/ran a 7000 ) ?? Frayed cables seem like maintenance issue ??

Been using a 7000 since the mid 80's first the 4 and now the 8. We've never broken a cable, and they still look fine, so.....IDK? The 4 row had an oil leak in the switching valve, so I've pulled it out of that one once, and the 8 row was giving me fits the first year I got it not wanting to switch, which I believe was an air bubble I got bled out, so I've pulled that one once. Even that isn't that bad? I couldn't recite the steps here.....but seems a couple of bolts. I tied baler twine to it to the opposite side so when I pulled it out, I could pull the twine to pull it back in the other way. I guess I didn't know it was that miserable at the time, apparently I was mistaken! Hahaha

That's EXACTLY what was our ONLY ailment with the 7000 Consertill that we possess, leaky marker cylinder and the twine/string tying to put things back together, easy/peazy

I was going to add pictures but can't seem to figure out how. I took off 2 bolts on outside of marker. Removed a bolt from the 90 degree "marker rod holder?" And that allowed it to lower and swing back for storage. Ow and also looses the transport holder on back of marker arm. Thanks for the help, it's my first planter so this won't b the last question I'm sure lol. Says my picture size is too large, I tried lol ------------- 1955 WD-45 with factory PS |
