Hi

Here is a link to a priority valve on Steiner:
http://antique-tractor-parts.steinertractor.com/tractor/Priority%20Valve - http://antique-tractor-parts.steinertractor.com/tractor/Priority%20Valve

It looks like this device can be used to operate your power steering off of the Live Hyd pump.  It says it would work on WD models.

By doing this i t:  "ELIMINATES BELT DRIVEN PUMP, PULLEYS & BRACKETS. ENABLES YOU TO USE YOUR LIVE HYDRAULIC PUMP TO OPERATE THE POWER STEERING."

Has anyone done this?  Would it also work for a 1958 D17 tractor?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Terry

These valves work great. I installed one on my sons D-14 along with a char-lynn torque generator. He has used it for about a year with no problems. Northern Tool has them for $95.00 plus shipping, [item no. 2049-1101]

Something to remember, if the pump is putting out 4 gpm or less, the priority takes it all.

The valve works great if you have a large enough pump, as in a front mounted pump.

The instant you step on the clutch, you will have no power assist.
