For a 226 in a WD45 the wrist pins have to be offset one way or the other so they don’t rub the sleeves according to my manual.
It is the same way on the D17/170?
Also should the bolts on the rod that tighten down the wrist pin, should the bolts face away from or towards the cam? I have taken apart a couple of different engines and they were both opposite of each other. My manual also does not specify that so does it even matter?

Been a while...think rods are offset (the beam is not centered over bearing) because of crank/block orientation....so it seems that 1&4 set one direction and 2&3 are opposite. If so 2 clamps will be on cam side and 2 opposite. The beam of rod is closer to cylinder wall on one side which is why the pin can't be centered in rod. You should be able to figure out which is correct after studying it. Don't clamp rod in vise to tighten wrist pin. Clamp one of those tapered/pointed hook bars in vise and stick wrist pin over it.
