My WD45 puller I have been working on will not be ready for our local shows first pull of the year, wont have all the parts I need in time. It’s out of my hands.
So I have a D17 I tore apart last year that pulled good but smoked and burned oil. Had 1/8 over SP48’s in it. They are badly worn and can not be run any longer. I have a set of 1/8 over WD flat tops I could use.
Has anyone ran that set up? I can figure up my compression and what I need to mill off myself, I’m gonna go for around 10:1 comp. My question is would I still have to mill in valve reliefs? Or what Amount would need to be milled off in order for it not necessary to mill in valve reliefs?
Thanks!!

Place the SP-48 alongside the flat top and shove a piston pin thru them to hold them together. If the height of the flat top isn't any greater than the SP-48, you won't have to do anything. It can even be some taller and if the cam grind/timing is OEM, you still won't have to do anything. Piston can be within probably .050" of the top of the sleeve and it will still miss the valves, but check to be sure.
