Got my new to me h3 home the other day. Waiting on some hydraulic fittings to come in so I can replace some hoses. Blew a lift cylinder hose loading it. Gonna service it and go over everything, new seat and some other stuff. Has pto and 3 point but someone turned the 3 point into a rop. I plan on changing that back. While using my tree puller on my skid steer yesterday I wondered if anyone had ever fabbed up a skid steer quick attach setup for the front so they could run something other than the bucket? I could use the 3 point cylinder rear hydraulics and run lines to the front to power my tree puller. And best I could tell from online pics maybe I have dozer tracks and not loader smooth tracks? I’m probably wrong but I thought loader tracks were smooth and didn’t have the raised traction bars.

sniff,sniif... I've always wanted an H3.....it'd look GREAT nesxt to my D14s....sniff, sniff.... yes SSQA should be a NICE upgrade ! Not that hard to do, several mfrs make 'kits' + plates, easy enough to bodge onto the loader pins. I'd make a 'mockup' out of plywood,2x4s,etc. to get the dimensions juuuuuust right THEN fab the steel pieces. I did that for one of my D-14s 2-3 years ago.

Dozer tracks on a loader can wear out finals quickly as a loader is always making short shape turns, often with a bucket full of material compared to mainly straight line pushes with a dozer. I company that I worked for had a small IHC loader with dozer tracks and we were always repairing the finals until I suggested that we torch to the grousers down to about 1/2 the height. We never had any more trouble with the finals after that. The sprocket and what I can see of the rails look good so you might find some old loader tracks and replace the pads.

What Don is saying is true but if your work involves a lot of straight pushing you accomplish much more with the tracks you have as loader tracks are short of positive traction especially on a light machine like an H3. Because you don't have a rear counterweight the backend will be very light with a bucket full of material, this in turn keeps a lot of side torsion away from the finals with a loaded bucket off the ground. I notice the track seems to be adjusted too tight, this is hard on the sprockets, bearings and front idlers. The tracks won't derail very easily but at a price. Interesting to see an old Allis hood on your machine. Have fun with it :-) !!

It came with all the original manuals so I’ll look up what the droop should be for the tracks. Didn’t think about em being too tight. Did they have a different hood?

The side profile of an H3 hood is the same look as that of a D14/D15 tractor. The way the hood on yours curves down coming up to the radiator identifies it as that of WD, WC, WF and model B, C & CA tractors.

Re the skidloader attachments, yes on non powered stuff, but on anything that needs power, like hyd driven stuff, you'll need to know the PSI and GPM, of the pump on the tractor, and that needed for the motor on the implement. They have to match up, pretty close.

In those cases, your cylinders have to match the pump output, for the right cylinder speed. A little less important than operating a hyd motor too slow or fast...

One thing is counterweight , it's needed or the front idler wheel will end up with a bent axle, and overstrain on machine . Seems out of 4 HD5 machines i worked on a bent front axle was common as was the lack of counterweight, My HD4 was another machine where balance of the machine suffered as if backhoe was attached all the weight was on rear sprockets , and if loader was used with hoe attached it walked on front idler .

Can anyone on here tell why my H3 dozer pumps the oil out of the power director and into the hydraulics . When dump oil in to power dicector you can hear coming out of the breather cap for the hydraulics . There has to be a seal out somewhere.
