Hello. I have an oil leak on the front seal of my 1985 6080 not a bad leak but a leak that only appears to happen when tractor is running. The tractor does have the kit on the front. I had a new seal and new bearing (the bearing next to the pulley) installed in the front. I don't remember the exact amount of play that the crankshaft has in it - front to back but it was not a lot. The thrust bearing on the front of the crankshaft inside the motor up front does not appear or feel bad. Also the blow by tube is not kinked or damaged. When they tractor is running you can feel and see a small any of smoke coming from the tube. Any thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated? Thanks.

You probably will always see a little blow-by coming from the tube.

I've nicked a few seals on keyways before, so it could be that. Is it like the front seal on a 301, with the wear-ring built into the seal? Or does the seal ride on the crankshaft? If it rides on the crankshaft, it may be a groove in the crank.

Hurst it has the smae seal as your engine. You will need to remove front cover to install the front crank seal.

Just wondering, but could it possibly be a front engine plate being loose that is leaking? I had that on my 7000. It's not a whole lot more to do while you have the front cover off, at least not on a 7000. Or, maybe a loose front plate moving too much and not letting the seal seat?

I was just thinking about it, and I think the cover mounts with bolts/dowels that go into the engine block, so I doubt it's causing the seal to move, but it could still be a place it is leaking if it's dripping from the front of the engine.

I was able to replace the seal on mine without removing the front cover a few years ago. It helped, but is still a bit wet there.
