Was wondering what’s the best weight of oil to use in a 262 Buda-Allis diesel?

I'm by no means an expert but I run 15w-40 motorcraft super duty in my wd45d.It only gets run in warmer temps. If you're starting this in less than 40 degree temps then I would drop to 10w-30 diesel grade,15/40 gets pretty thick in cold temps. You need to remember the oil pick up has a fine mesh screen on it which makes it harder to get the oil drawn through at colder temps. Honestly the 10w-30 would probably be ok year round. My operators manual for my 45d says 30w for summer and 20w for winter but that was old technology from back in the day.

I ran 15wX40 in my series 4 diesel year around. I only used it to feed livestock in the winter. I always put out enough big bales to last at least 2 weeks. Then I could usually find a warmer day to put out more hay. Tank type water heater is a must in the winter.
