This may be long, so I apologize now. Ready to hang my newly rebuilt engine on my G when I noticed an oil leak from an axle housing. Decided to fix it (new seals) before priming/painting then wishing I had. Drained the oil from the tranny and listened to "hard stuff" hit the catch pan. Not good. Screened out gear chunks. So I decided to tear into it. Differential ring gear and pinion gear are missing nearly a 1/4" from each tooth. Nuts!!! So then I go into tranny case and find a snap ring in two pieces in the bottom. Some of the gears are a little rough but probably usable for a parade tractor.Maybe the broken snap ring caused the ring gear/pinion problem? Seems like my best bet is to find a replacement tranny. Any suggestions? Thanks Bob@allisdowneast (Maine)
PS The only good news is that my shop stays about 70 - 75 when it's 95 outside. The concrete floor keeps it cool. |

The transmission in the G is the same as the B & C. I don't know but I bet the case is the same also. I needed a gear for the transmission in my G, I went to a salvage yard and asked for the gear for a G, the counter man took me to the stock room and pointed to the G bin area and left. I looked and the bins were empty. I went to the C or B bins and found the gear I needed. It's still working today. I have another gear that I don't need if anyone is looking for one. The cases are almost the same except the case is drilled for the low gear that sets out front. Inside the case is all the same.

Tony, Dusty and Dick,
Thanks for you help. I had looked at the ring gear on a C with the PTO cover off and it looked different. So, based on your info, I went to my pole barn and hauled a tranny off a 1950 B into the shop and pulled off the PTO cover. Sure enough, the ring gear is the same and it looks like new. The ring gear on the G had been removed/replaced in the past as it was bolted on, not riveted. Thanks again. Looks like the G will finally come together. Bob@allisdowneast |

Bob, Delighted to see that the G is getting back to battery.
I had a few problems with the G transmission. Heavy handed operators. Rebuilding them was tedious work.
