I've got one of those giant-ass LED cob bulbs in the shed. 10,000 lumens, works a treat. I was thinking I've got a couple of outdoor fixtures I'd love to put something this bright in, for when I really need to see something in the yard, but I don't believe these are rated for outdoor use. | i have a LED bulb in my outside yard lamp post, equivalant to a 5W output. it lights up the yard real well, it's also on 24/7 as the electric eye has gone kapoot. we went and cleaned the glass on the lamp, unscrewing the bulb and i couldn't hang onto the base it was so hot. and stayed hot all the time we cleaned. no ice builds up on the glass in winter! i have also noted the heat in the bases of house lamp bulbs and ceiling light fixtures using the LED's. ya'll might wanna check yours, might be a fire hazard in certain places. |

 Exposed to water? Kinda suggests it is an indoor thing, and would need an enclosed fixture as a yard light, but then it says ut's also no rated for enclosed fixtures. I think they are more for a big shed / barn / warehouse.... If you mount OUTSIDE, it should be under a half moon cover that is open on the bottom. COB type lights with the LEDs exposed would not be the best for outside use. You can buy LEDS that look like incandescent bulbs ( glass or plastic ball) that would be better for outside use. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Yeah, that's kind of why I was asking for recommendations. I originally picked these up at Rural King, and I'm looking at Menards as well, and there's a huge price difference between these and 'outdoor' LED lights. And these suckers are bright. ------------- 1957 D17 Diesel w/ M&W Pistons |

"outdoor" are going to come with their own SEALED CASE to keep out water and bugs.. That cost $$.... You could use just an LED BULB, but need to have a LARGE hemispherical cover over it. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

I have 5 of them working in my shop along with some other tube LED in 4ft fixtures that were for T8 bulbs . Also converted a standard 8' florescent fixture to LED bulb and it starts and is bright cold temp. Of the LED Corn bulb one type I put up is spiral tube with the LED chips within 250 Watt equivalent - indoor or outdoor , the 300 Watt also the LED chips are protected so can be used outside but YES the base needs some protection from direct contact with water - so a reflector or diverter to keep moisture out of the driver end by screw base might be needed . The heat produced now on LED is way less that what is put out by incandescent lamp of similar wattage rating - and now many LED bulbs are also rated for dimmer use . Any place you has CLF curly bulbs is a great place for a LED replacement at about 1/4 of the watt draw and less heat output of the base unit that controls it . ------------- Faith isn't a jump in the dark.
