Hi all! Came across this site tonight while doing some research on history of the series 1 D17. Our family just got our old farm tractor running again after it was parked in our shed for almost 25 years. Now we are trying to find some history on this series. I know the serial numbers started with 1001. We were told the first 6 tractors went to implement dealers for advertising and then were later dismantled. I would love to get a book on the history of them but I can’t tell which one if any has this detail. The serial number on ours is very low so may be on of the oldest ones out there remaining. I would love any info or suggestions on books that may be helpful!

Lots of good info out there, don't know of any books specific to D 17 but just ask questions.

Thank you so much for the info! My husband’s uncle is a huge Allis fan and has several tractors and books. He told my husband that numbers 1001-1007 were dismantled but I’m not sure if he saw that in a book or if it was secondhand. That’s why I have been researching to see if this was accurate. I was looking for some type of registry so that was extremely helpful!! Ours is 1010. I plan on doing some nice photos of her for a Christmas present to my parents who still own the tractor. I will definitely post some! I would love to include some of the history of the model as part of the picture.

Google: Nebraska Test #635 and #636 and include copies of these in your gift. These are the official tests by the University of Nebraska detailing the performance of the gas and diesel tractors at their testing facility in Lincoln. The gasoline tractor chassis serial number was #1128. Tests were done in November of 1957.

Interesting tests for sure! They sure weighted them down. Ballast and weights!

WELCOME to the site Joyce.  You'll get almost ANY question answered on here.  LOTS of knowledge and knowledgeable people.   There are NO dumb questions so ask away.  Sad to say, but so much of the history of these tractors was thrown away with the sale of Allis many years ago.

Thought I saw an auction sale bill from northern Minnesota with a diesel D17 serial #1003. Don't always know if they have the right number. This was about 5 years ago.
