Dad is in the "market" for at the very least, a "pole" saw. I borrowed a friend of mine's Stihl pole saw 3 year ago and dad was impressed to say he least  . He priced it out at the local dealer recently and almost had "another" bypass surgery  . This was/is a gas powered unit with 3 extension poles to get up to 12-14' standing on the ground. Are there comparable units without the "Stihl" $$ ?? Thanks

I have one of the Stihl Combi units and I love it. Pole saw w/extension, garden tiller and weed eater. Yes they are expensive but I don't think you will find anything comparable at a lesser price. I use mine a lot clearing limbs around the edge of fields so I don't have to fight the limbs when I bush hog. The manual says to use only one extension but if you can handle the extra length go for it. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

Thanks Hugh. Apparently there are different P/H cc's that dictate the # of extensions ?? No question about it, the "borrowed" machine was a BEAST

mine is about 8 ft long and extends out ONE to maybe 15 ft.... you PAY for quality. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

I also have the 90CC combi unit that I used with the hedge trimmer to keep my willows clear to mow the lawn so not to fall off the mower. I then added pole saw, leaf blower, string trimmer, and this year purchased the sidewalk edger! My neighbor has used mine several times the last several years! My son has borrowed it for a long month last year (boy,I sure missed it) and he bought the larger 130CC motor for himself! Only sthiel for me! You pay for it Once! But, it runs for ever with good maintenance! DeWayne

| mine is just a B&D battery one. it has worked very well for 2 years now. has 2 extensions that can be or don't need to be used, easy to change it. cuts alot with one battery. it's the 20V one. i didn't think i needed a gas one...and so far i don't. HF has a battery one too... but i've never seen it, the price was comparable with B&D. i'm thinking that any of these..gas/electric, when you need a new chain/bar...it'll hafta be made up or ordered from ? as i've never seen replacements for any brand of them. |

I have a 'Combi unit' with pole saw and one extension, love it! The thought of an additional extension, wow, you'd have to be some kind of monster to run it that way. If I want to work higher, I get someone to run the 6080 with me in the loader bucket.

The first of that type saw was put together by a fruit farmer in Idaho and he used Echo weed eater motors,back about 1980. The first units he sold had no oiler on the chain. Then Echo bought his rights and added a oiler. The Echo units are the only ones I have seen out in use. But there is nothing comb about them. The motor and about 6 foot of pole that you can slide out about another 5 foot or so. Making a 10 to 12 foot long unit. Back in the beginning they where 700 to 800 bucks. If you want cheap there are a lot of electric saws on a pole. Always find other use's for a generator. But I guess you add a saw and generator up price wise not much cheaper. But it is a combo deal.  |

Ryobi has a unit, battery. All my other battery tools are ryobi so if I BUY ONE IT'LL BE Ryobi. I think Harbor Freight has a combo unit. ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |

I have a 120v electric Remmington pole saw that was inexpensive and has worked well for me. I am only using it around the yard and not for serious work. If I am not near power I put my generator in my garden trailer and take power with me. ------------- Jack of all trades, master of none |

I’ve had mine 10 or 12 years. Brush cutter, pole saw and weed eater. Love the versatility. And w the quality of Stihl, it’s earned its money. I did have to think about the price a bit, but glad I did it.
