| If it hasn't been converted to an alternator it should be positive ground. |

| Positive from factory....check which battery post is grounded. Could be like my cousin's where he replaced battery and hooked up neg ground. Still started and ran....ignorance is bliss. |

| I would check to see if you have power at the battery, distributor, and starter. A test light is useful for that. |

| Clean and tighten all connections. Sounds like you lost conductivity or else the battery died. Don't know if regulator could stick points and run system down when off? Doubt you are shorting anything. You would be cooking wiring somewhere. |

In this case, the first thing I would do, is pull the battery or pull the cables off it and charge the battery. Then take the charger off and test the voltage. That will tell you if the battery is good. The battery has to hold a charge, before you can check anything. A quick check for battery drain, if the battery is good, is to take one cable off and then touch it the battery terminal. If everything is off (including ign switch), and there is any spark, there is a drain somewhere. But, first check the battery, they can die, overnight.
