Are these new Allis-Chalmers lawn mowers worth buying? Would you reccomend these to someone? Is there any fatal flaws one should know about?

When it comes time to replace the Craftsman, sometime in the future, I'd like to know if it would be worth looking into a new Allis-Chalmers.

Is Briggs & Stratton just going to do this for a limited time or do they plan on letting the Allis-Chalmers brand expand. It would be AWESOME to see Briggs & Stratton take the name and try to produce a tractor line to get the Briggs & Stratton name in the agriculture business and let the Allis-Chalmers name work its way back to the top. I know I'd definately have to get my first new tractor if that happened.

On the website, http://www.allischalmerslawn.com/ - http://www.allischalmerslawn.com/ , don't it seem like Briggs & Stratton knows about the history of Allis-Chalmers farm tractors and is interested in keeping the name alive.

WE ALL CAN DREAM! My dreams are just weird though.

37, Briggs bought Simplicity. Simplicity built or sold AC lawn and small garden tractors for several years. They should know about Acs history, as they were part of it. AC used to make the Bs, Cs, and Gs. Then Simplicity started making the small tractors, like the 720s, 620s, etc. At least that's the way I understand it. Hopefully NCAllis nut and some of the other "new Ac" owners will chime in with their opinions of the mowers. I do like the Simplicity mowers. They are better than most "dispozo-mowers" that come from the big box stores these days. I can only hope that Briggs will back up the claims they are making to the orange heritage and make a high end mower that will put MTD, Husqvarna, and JD to shame. They could use the competition to help raise their standards, because what they are putting out now is laughable. I wouldn't sell it for scrap metal BEFORE I used it. LOL!

Jeremy,

The new AC-130 lawn tractors are built off the Simplicity Regent chassis and drivetrain. So your getting a good reliable product.

Major difference between the Allis and the Simplicity is the mower deck.

The Allis gets a Murry deck (B&S bought them out), so you will not get the cut and look that the Simplicity is famous for.

I have the AC-130 w/42" deck. The cut is acceptable and the deck shell is solid.

The spindles have grease fittings.

In my opinion you are getting a good lawn tractor for $2,000.00

Latest info from my dealer was that B&S was happy with the sales and they were planning on continued production of the AC-130.

does anyone know why they stopped making these? I was looking at buying a used one for 400.00 . did they hold up? are they done making them?

They were a limited time sell for Simplicity. I think 2 years, just to bring back to AC name temporarily to boost sales. A bit of Nostalgia. My dad bought one the first year and my son the next year. Both have been good machines. Just put front wheel bearings in dads and my son has had no issues. My son also bought the rear grass catcher and mulching blades.
It is a low end mower but they have held up well.

Picked one of these up recently (4 wheel steer model). She runs great, mowed great until I snapped the belt yesterday, but here's my issue. After about 20 minutes of mowing, she begins to slow down, like the transmission is slipping. After a few minutes, she quits moving all together. I let her sit for a while and all is fine for another 15-20 minutes, and then nothing all over again. Where do I begin to troubleshoot this?
